Across the Lys
The river Lys forms a natural border separating them. Yet Comines-Warneton and Comines-France share a common past.
In the 17th century, Comines France, on the right bank of the river, was nicknamed Comines la Jolie and renowned throughout Europe for its ribbon factories.
Comines has preserved some remarkable sites from these prosperous years.
Head to the Grand Place to admire its architectural gems, such as its neo-Byzantine church or the bulb of its belfry.
