A collective rejoicing to share!

When Pierrot comes to Sainte-Catherine

Who are the guests at the Sainte-Catherine banquet? The ribbon makers, blue bellies! Celebrating their patron saint, Saint Catherine, on 25 November has become a widespread local tradition. No fuss, just a simple, inexpensive menu. White beans, raw red cabbage marinated in vinegar, jacket potatoes and a piece of sausage: this is ‘Pierrot’.
Who or what is behind this mysterious Pierrot? Who knows! The main thing is to have fun and enjoy good food!

The Marmousets in celebration

The Sainte-Anne fair and its Marmousets festival are two other well-respected traditions that are still as popular as ever! Every two years, a folkloric procession alternates with a street party.
During the folkloric procession, the giants of Comines come out to play. Luc, the Marmouset, and Simon, the Ribbon Bearer, parade alongside their French and Belgian counterparts, accompanied by folk and musical groups. The street party honours a particular country or region.
And finally… Try to catch one of the 300 little Marmouset dolls thrown from the Town Hall at the end of the day.
