But what did they reveal?

The lead coffin is the final resting place of Robert de Cassel, who died in the year of grace 1331. This lord of Warneton was the younger son of Robert III, Count of Flanders, known as Robert of Béthune. The second tomb is empty! The polychrome motifs, mainly religious in nature, point to a clergyman, Abbot Anselme Van de Waele (1343-1346).

Would you like to discover these two tombs, which were restored and classified as a ‘historic monument’ in 1974?
The crypt of the Church of Saints Peter and Paul awaits your visit!
