Fête des Marmousets

Fête des Marmousets

The Marmouset, loyal companion of the Bleu Vinte

The Marmouset is a young, sometimes mischievous apprentice who helps his master ribbon maker, the Bleu Vinte, by doing odd jobs. How he would love to equal or surpass his elder!  Good things come to those who wait… He is the epitome of the Fête des Marmousets, the showpiece of our ribbon-making tradition.

When the Marmousets go marching in …

On the third weekend of July, the Fête des Marmousets generates unwavering enthusiasm. It is the moment where the Giants of Comines come out: Sophie Patard, Jean Prout, Baptiste, Luc le Marmouset and Simon le Rubanier parade to the rhythm of folkloric and musical groups. Each year, the street festival celebrates a country or region, creating a joyful, colourful atmosphere in Comines-Warneton.

Marmouset throwing

This is the long-awaited moment at the end of the day! Some 300 Marmouset for adults and 200 for children are thrown from the town hall balcony on Place Sainte-Anne. An exhilarating experience!
