Fête de la Brique
- Pentecost Sunday
Meet the bricks in Le Bizet
Le Bizet is the most remote part of Comines-Warneton. Particularly popular with French visitors, this hamlet is renowned for its friendly atmosphere and local tourism: beers, chocolate, tobacco… But its history has been shaped by the brick.
Brick clay, land of the Briqueteux
It comes as no surprise that bricks are revered in Le Bizet. Founded in 1922, the Ploegsteert brickworks have employed generations of workers known as briqueteux. Still a family business, they today enjoy an international reputation.
Marie Cop’in and the Briqueteux
All these brickmakers, experts in extracting and firing clay, are celebrated with a festival offering various activities, concerts, throwing of Bizous… Held on Pentecost Sunday, the Fête de la Brique is also a great opportunity for Marie Cop’in, the local giant, to make an appearance. These popular festivities attract a large Franco-Belgian audience to Le Bizet
