Course du Souvenir
- 11 November
Duty of remembrance and sporting challenge
Both a sporting and memorial event, the Course du Souvenir MTO is a spectacular tribute to the sacrifice of the soldiers who fell on our territory during the First World War.
A growing success thanks to a tailored format
In 1981, around thirty joggers took part in the very first race organised by the Vandenbroucke family and their cycling friends. Word of mouth then gradually convinced many more to join in! In 2019, some 6,000 joggers, both professional and amateur, ran the Ploegsteert half marathon.
Three distances are proposed to suit everybody’s fitness: 21 km for the most experienced, 8 km for the moderate and 1 km for the kids!
A gathering to remember
These walkers and runners tread beautiful wood and country paths, passing along numerous First World War military cemeteries and the British Memorial to the Missing.
After the run, they can discover the Plugstreet 14-18 Experience Interpretation Centre and the memorial heritage of a region that was hit hard by the Great War.
