A paradise for birds and birdwatchers A Natura 2000 site, the Ploegsteert nature and bird sanctuary covers some 130 hectares of distinct biotopes, all originating from clay pits: wooded areas, marshes, open water, bare earth, reed beds, mudflats, etc. Kingfishers, egrets, grebes and other birds have made their home here. It is here also that the largest population of crested newts in Hainaut has been recorded, as well as some rare species of bats. A fascinating visit you will not forget!
